Business and Life Mentor Venus Rose: Staying True to Her Vision Written by Rosa Linda Fallon

Entrepreneur and Idaho native Venus Rose’s journey of business ownership began at a young age. Growing up, things were really tough. Venus’ mother was a single mom who worked multiple jobs to make ends meet. Venus took initiative at an early age, and began filling in the gaps by working different jobs and picking up side gigs along the way to help her mother. “Growing up was always a struggle,” Venus says of her childhood. “Ever since I was young, my mom taught me the importance of making my own money.”

One of the ways she made extra money was by going to yard sales, Goodwill and Craigslist, and buying items and flipping them for a profit. “It was exciting to me,” she says. “I loved being able to control how much money I made.” While it may have seemed Venus was a budding business owner, growing up, she ran into challenges with risk-taking because she didn’t have many options, and taking risks always meant losing. “For me, it has always been hard to take risks,” she admits. “Because when I was young, we would take risks, and we’d lose everything.” She remembered her grandfather telling her, “You can do anything you set your mind to.” But she didn’t believe it, at least not for a long time.

While her entrepreneurial spirit revealed itself early on, Venus’ ultimate dream was to become a commercial pilot. She started flight school at age sixteen and obtained her pilot license at age twenty. That was when she began to believe in herself. “When I finished it, that felt to me like a permission slip,” she says. “It was like, ‘Okay, well, here you go.’ I felt like I had unlocked something.”

While still in flight school, she went to college to pursue her associate degree. During her time in school, she interned for a local newspaper and learned how to write. A friend who was applying for a job asked Venus to write a resume for her. Venus, not very confident in her writing abilities at the time, was unsure at first. Still,in an effort to help out her friend, she wrote the resume for her.

After Venus’ friend got the job, she reached back out to Venus to tell her that those who had interviewed her loved her resume, and suggested that she start writing resumes for others. “At first, I was like, ‘No, I’m not good at this,’” Venus expresses. “Then she said she had friends who also wanted resumes written for them.” So, she began writing resumes and charging for it. Then, this led to people asking her for advice on how to interview for jobs. “They would get pulled in for an interview, but didn’t know how to answer the questions or feel confident,” Venus says. “They started asking me to consult with them on how to interview.”

Those she coached landed the jobs, became successful, and climbed up the corporate ladder. Venus stayed in touch with them and continued to help them through their professional transitions.

Around the same time her coaching business was starting to take off, Venus received a full ride scholarship to Boise State University to study communications. On her second day of school, Venus’ mother received a diagnosis of Stage 3 breast cancer. “That’s when I decided to drop out, let go of my scholarship, and really take my business seriously because I knew her treatment was going to be expensive,” Venus explains, referring to how her and her mother had already gone through bankruptcy in the past.

She hired a business coach to learn how to scale her business to the next level. She wanted to not only learn how to grow her business, but also how to develop the emotional intelligence it takes to be able to endure the challenges that come with a growing business. “So many things can happen where you hit roadblocks, or somebody doesn’t come through with a contract,” Venus says, “and that can be really difficult to deal with.”

Even though she didn’t have many options growing up, Venus started to see it as an opportunity to rewrite her story and create her own vision. She realized it was up to her to take control of her own life. As an entrepreneur, she has also learned that she cannot follow what everyone else is doing. Otherwise, she would not be staying true to herself, or her vision. “I really unplugged myself,” she says. “My mentor had me journal and ask the question ‘Who am I?’ every day. When you truly understand who you are, that changes everything.”

Now, at just 24 years old, Venus is a successful luxury business and life mentor for entrepreneurs and real estate agents, a licensed real estate broker, the marketing genius and operations strategist for her boyfriend Zeno Lancaster’s law firm, Lancaster Law Firm in Asheville, NC, as well as the publisher of an upcoming real estate magazine. Her clients range from those just starting, to those who own 7 figure + companies.

She credits her success to taking radical responsibility for everything in her life and investing in mentors who guided her along the way. She encourages entrepreneurs and business owners to consider finding a mentor who really inspires them. “Getting in the energy of someone that inspires you is absolutely priceless,” Venus says. “Learning from them is the best thing you can do to accelerate your success and limit your failures. You’ll still have pitfalls, but with a mentor, it helps alleviate the mistakes you’ll make.” Venus explains that she has her own personal book of mistakes. “If you name the mistake, I’ve made it. Certainly not on purpose, but I do think that insight is what makes me great at what I do since I can help my clients not make the same mistakes I have made. The experience is what helps me to help others”.

Being able to take radical responsibility for everything that happens and combining that with both confidence and emotional intelligence is what Venus believes to be crucial for success. “If you can learn how to navigate through the very difficult situations and conversations that come with being a business owner – you will win.”
